The CSI5*-W H.H. Ruler of Sharjah Cup in the United Arab Emirates concluded on Saturday with a 150,000€ Longines FEI World Cup Qualifier.
A total of 42 horse-and-rider combinations lined up for the challenge set by the Dutch course designer Louis Konickx. Fifteen pairs cleared the first-round 1.60m track, with eleven of them repeating their clears in round two against the clock.
Fastest of all was Bruce Goodin (NZL) on the 12-year-old gelding Backatorps Danny V (Quasimodo Z x Lupicor), who took home the win with a time of 34.68 seconds. Christian Ahlmann (GER) on the 9-year-old stallion Solid Gold Z (Stakkato Gold x Calvin Z) had to settle for the runner-up position when the clocks stopped on 35.27, while Abdel Said (EGY) on the 10-year-old mare Alanine de Vains (Allegreto x Adelfos) placed third with a time of 35.30. Chad Fellows (GBR) on the 11-year-old gelding Vinci de Beaufour (Diamant de Semilly x Heartbreaker) placed fourth and Holger Wulschner (GER) on the 11-year-old gelding Casirus (Casiro 3 x Landor S) fifth.
Earlier in the day, the Emirates Equestrian and Racing Federation Trophy, a 1.50m table A, went to Abdel Said (EGY) on Arpege du Ru (Apache d'Adriers). Jack Whitaker (GBR) on Scenletha (Scendix x Contendra I) placed second, while Paolo Paini (ITA) on Ottava Meraviglia di Ca San G (For Pleasure x Caletto I) took the third spot. Mohamed Talaat (EGY) on Darshan (Diamant de Semilly x Baloubet du Rouet) took the fourth place and the fifth spot went to Jörg Naeve (GER) on HH Fleur (Darco x Bon Ami).
