This week, the 9th and last stop of the year in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Western European League takes place in Mechelen, Belgium.
The CSI5*-W classes in the Nekkerhal in Mechelen got underway on Thursday with Daniel Deusser (GER) and the 16-year-old Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z (Otangelo x Mr Blue) topping the CSI5*-W 1.45m Léon Melchior Open Sires of the World powered by Zangersheide, a competition counting for the Longines Rankings group D. Christian Ahlmann (GER) and Otterongo Alpha Z (Darco x Hedjaz) took the runner-up spot, followed by Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida (POR) on Solidat (Semper Fi x Chacco-Blue) in third, Thibault Philippaerts (BEL) on Obama de la Liniere (Marius Claudius x Golden Hawk) in fourth and Kevin Jochems (NED) aboard Casillas van de Helle (Casalla x San Patrignano Corrado) in fifth.
"What an incredible moment," Tobago's breeder Jonas Bellemans said in a press release from Jumping Mechelen. "Seven year ago, he also won this competition here, something I'll never forget. I used to ride Tobago myself, but when he turned 8, he moved to Stephex Stables, and Daniel took over. Now at 16, he still leaves an unforgettable impression. I'm immensely proud to see him perform like this."
Later during the night, Koen Vereecke (BEL) and Merryweather Vt Leeuwerikenhof (Emerald x Tenor Manciais) won the CSI5*-W 1.50m BMW Masters. The hosts took the whole podium, with Jérôme Guery (BEL) and Careca LS Elite (Carusso LS La Silla x Rebozo La Silla) placing second and Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) on Qnokke de Muze (Mosito van het Hellehof x Ronedo FCS) taking third.
