The Morocco Royal Tour Winning Rounds are always a genuine moment of sport. This particular class presents unique opportunities: Riders qualify for the second round - whether they have clear rounds or penalties: Enter again with a clean sheet. Jérôme Guéry was victorious in the first Winning Round in Tétouan, in Rabat, Emeric George took the win and on Saturday, it was time for a new talent to shine: The Swiss rider Elian Baumann.

The first round of this main class, at 1,50m height, was delicate. Only five riders managed to overcome the tricks of this course and to finish without penalties: Pius Schwizer, Jessica Mendoza, Abdullah Alsharbatly, Elian Baumann and Marco Kutscher. Ten riders came to start in the second round, the five clear rounds as well as the five first riders with four faults.

Italian rider Roberto Tuchetto opened with a fast clear round in 42,15 seconds. Half of Tuchetto’s followers made faults, trying to catch up with his time. The crowd had to wait for the Norwegian rider Cecilie Hatteland, winner in another class against the clock last week in Rabat, to triumph over the Italian time by two hundredths of a second.

Swiss rider Elian Baumann outshone everyone however when beating the Norwegian and the Italian riders with more than a second of difference. A time of 41,06 seconds, riding Campari Z, proved good enough for the win. Elian, aged 30, worked by the side of Pius Schwizer for nine years, until he opened his own stables three years ago. He started the 4* level of competitions this summer in Crans Montana, before continuing on this Moroccan Royal Tour.

“I had a lot of pressure by entering last. I do not have a lot of experience yet on this level of international competition, I was already thrilled to be qualified for the second round! The lengths of the first round fitted my horse perfectly. He is full of energy, so I could let him run. I decided to try it all in the second round. They were not a lot of options, everybody did the same course. In general, my horse is fast, so I just took the inside curves. On the last jump, I said to myself “let’s do it” and I gave it all to win this class. Tomorrow, I will ride Campari Z again in the Grand Prix and we will see how it works!” said Elian Baumann, smiling after his course.
