Saturday's biggest win at the 2024-edition of IFEMA Madrid Horse Week in Spain went to Germany's Hans-Dieter Dreher and the 15-year-old gelding Vestmalle des Cotis (Baloubet du Rouet x Landor S).

The German rider went off with the victory in Saturday's CSI5*-W 1.50m Estrella Damm Trophy – a competition counting for the Longines Rankings Group B – after clocking a time of 43.95 seconds in the winning round, with the host nation's own Teresa Blazquez-Abascal (ESP) and Nasa de Toxandria (Vertigo Saint-Benoit x Chopin van het Moleneind) following in second as they crossed the timers in 44.08.

Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) and Elwikke (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Quick Star) placed third with a time of 45.75, ahead of Leopold van Asten (NED) and VDL Groep Kiara (Clearway x Papillon Rouge) in fourth in 46.61. Marcus Ehning (GER) and Flower Girl (Hickstead x Catoki) completed the top five after stopping the clock at 46.70 seconds.

The victory in Saturday's CSI5*-W 1.45m Virtus Trophy went to Ireland's Michael Pender and the 11-year-old stallion HHS Vancouver (Indoctro x Don Juan de la Bouverie). With a time of 61.95 seconds, the Irish rider took the win ahead of Alessandra Reich (AUT) and Galadermie PP Z (George Z x Diamant de Semilly) in second in 62.74, and Philippe Rozier (FRA) on Dirty Sweet (Cornet Obolensky x Lavillon) in third in 62.90. 

The hosts have shown great form at IFEMA Madrid Horse Week, with Spain's own Jesus Garmendia Echevarria (ESP) and the 13-year-old Callias (Companiero x Casco) topping Friday's CSI5*-W 1.50m Mutua Madrileña Trophy. 

With a time of 57.11 seconds, the Spanish rider took the top honours in this competition counting for the Longines Rankings Group B. Gregory Wathelet (BEL) and Double Jeu d'Honvault (Kannan x Cook du Midour) took the runner-up spot after clocking a time of 58.06 seconds, followed by Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (BRA) and Zy-Zento (Zento x Indoctro) in third in 58.62. Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli (SWE) and Deesse de Coqueria (Consul Di Vie Z x Papillon Rouge) finished fourth with a time of 58.68, while Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) aboard Vestmalle des Cotis (Baloubet du Rouet x Landor S) completed the top five in 58.94 seconds. 

Friday's second CSI5*-W class, the 1.45m Hola Trophy – counting for the Longines Rankings Group D – went to Matthew Sampson (GBR) and the 14-year-old Fabrice DN (Gelha's VDL Emilion x Baloubet du Rouet) who took the win with a time of 50.43 seconds. Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) and Elwikke (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Quick Star) placed second in 51.74, followed by Michael Pender (IRL) and HHS Vancouver (Indoctro x Don Juan de la Bouverie) in third in 52.57, Pieter Devos (BEL) on Jarina J (Cicero Z x Harley) in fourth in 52.80 and Philippe Rozier (FRA) aboard Prestigio LS La Silla (Presley Boy x Cash) in fifth in 53.65.
