The young British talents continue to shine at the London International Horse Show, and on Saturday night it was Jack Whitaker's turn to steal the spotlight when the 20-year-old rider took the top honours in the CSI5*-W 1.55 Christmas Cracker riding Valmy de la Lande (Mylord Carthago *HN x Starter).
Only two riders managed to deliver double clears in this class, and fastest of them was Whitaker who stopped the clock at 41.48 seconds. The jump-off counted a total of ten horse-and-rider combinations, and runner-up was Noora Forsten (FIN) on Con Caya (Con Chello x Chambertin 3) who had a time of 43.50 seconds. The quickest, in 36.39 seconds, was again Harry Charles (GBR), who won Friday's feature class, but with four faults on Valkiry de Zance (Diamant de Semilly x Double Espoir) the 22-year-old had to settle for the third place this time around. With four faults and a time of 37.07 seconds, Olivier Robert (FRA) took the fourth place with Velvote des Aubiers (Jaguar Mail x Duc de Ferce), while Christian Ahlmann (GER) and Solid Gold Z ( Stakkato Gold x Calvin Z) finished fifth – also they with four faults, in 38.11 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Martin Fuchs (SUI) recorded his second win of the week with the 14-year-old gelding Tam Tam du Valon (Ogrion des Champs x Quidam de Revel). Fuchs was the fastest among a field of 26 riders in the 1.50m Global Herbs Snowflake Stakes when stopping the clock at 36.20 seconds in round two of the competition, leaving Christian Ahlmann to runner-up position on Nachito v/d Ketse (Quality Time x Baloubet du Rouet) – with 1.45 seconds separating the two riders. Third place went to Harrie Smolders (NED) and Une de l'Othain (Conterno Grande x Cento), who finished in 37.72 seconds.
