An extraordinary turn of speed from the 13-year-old Belgian-bred gelding Moeboetoe v/d Roshoeve (Der Senaat x Poleander) proved the winning formula for Liechtenstein’s Jennifer Hochstaedter in Saturday afternoon’s CSI5*-W 1.50m EGO 7 speed competition at Jumping Verona 2025.

“I had my plan and he is such a fast horse that I knew I could easily go faster and just try to do one less stride. He was completely with me today, he was jumping amazing and my plan went as I wanted so I’m very, very happy," said the 22-year-old rider.

The win was all the more satisfying for the fact that she beat her trainer, French star Simon Delestre, who set the target-time at 63.70 seconds with the electrifying Cayman Jolly Jumper (Hickstead x Quaprice Bois Margot) when eighteenth to go of the 42 starters. Hochstaedter blew that away however when, starting in the number 30 spot, she scorched around to stop the clock almost three seconds faster in 60.90.

Nothing was assured however because there were still plenty of top guns to follow, and Switzerland’s Jane Richard pinned Delestre back when galloping through the timers with Aequitus vh Bergerhof Z (Andiamo Z x Limbus Z) in 63.16 to hold runner-up spot until Matthew Sampson (GBR) set off with his opening class winner Latte Macchiato (Pacino x Boherdeal Clover) who looked really threatening all the way.

The British pair were not quite quick enough however, stopping the clock on 61.93 for second place ahead of Richard. Delestre had to settle for fourth ahead of Belgium’s Olivier Philippaerts and H&M Qualithina van't Ruytershof (Mosito van het Hellehof x For Pleasure) in fifth (63.85) while Italy’s Giulia Martinengo Marquet and Coynor (Canstakko x Toulon) slotted into sixth (64.60).

Asked about overtaking her trainer, Delestre, Hochstaedter laughed and said: "Yes I did and I was so happy! He also helped me in a way because I watched his round and we had our plan and he helped me to the end. I didn’t want to go crazy or do anything stupid so I just tried to turn short and it was unbelievable," she added.

This is one of the bigger wins of her career to date. “It’s a dream right now, my horses are in such good shape, it took some time for me to understand them but I feel like today it’s going in the right direction," she pointed out. She aquired both the 13-year-old Moeboetoe v/d Roshoeve and her other top ride, the 15-year-old Winnetou de la Hamente Z, from Sweden’s Evelina Tovek a year ago.
