Speed demon Julien Epaillard continued his winning streak on Friday evening, taking the top honours in the CSI5*-W 1.55m Marques de Riscal Trophy at the Casas Novas Winter Edition in La Coruna, Spain. Riding the 10-year-old gelding Billabong du Roumois (Mylord Carthago x Papillon Rouge), a winner of the Longines FEI World Cup in Madrid only a few weeks ago, Epaillard posted the fastest time of the class when stopping the clock at 57.93 seconds to completely outclass his competitors.
With a time of 63.54 seconds, Michael Pender (IRL) took the second place with HHS Calais (Cavalier Royale x Obos Quality 004), while 63.87 seconds put Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) third with Miro (Diamant de Semily x Kannan). Philipp Schulze Topphoff (GER) took the fourth place with Concordess NRW (Congress 4 x Acobat 3) after crossing the finish line in 64.54, while fifth place went to Jos Verlooy (BEL) and Luciano van het Geinsteinde (Quinn van de Heffinck x Air Jordan) with a time of 64.85.
Earlier in the day, Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP) took a home win in the CSI5*-W 1.45m NH Collection Trophy with Engerupgaards Cezanne (Balou du Rouet x Lucky Light). Second place went to Julien Anquetin on Blood Diamond du Pont (Diamant de Semilly x Arpege Pierreville) and third to Jesus Garmendia Echevarria (ESP) on Callias (Companiero x Casco).
