The 2025 European Champion Richard Vogel (GER) and the 9-year-old stallion Gangster Montdesir (Kannan x Cornet Obolensky) won Friday night’s CSI5*-W 1.60m Longines Grand Prix at Longines Equita Lyon 2025 in France.

“Gangster and I are a fairly new pair,” Vogel said in a press release from Longines Equita Lyon. “This is only our third competition together. Even though he’s still quite inexperienced, I planned to take a tight turn in this jump-off. I have to admit I didn’t expect him to turn so well! Gangster is incredible. He’s only nine years old and at every competition, he wins at least one class. He won the 1.45m and 1.50m classes in the first two competitions we did together, and here, in his first 1.60m Grand Prix, he wins. I think we couldn’t hope for more. Every question we ask him, he gives the perfect response. He’s a horse we have very high hopes for, and I really hope he has a great future.”

With a time of 38.78 seconds in a jump-off between nine horse-and-rider combinations, Vogel and his future prospect took the win ahead of current world number two Ben Maher (GBR) on Enjeu de Grisien (Toulon x Andiamo) in second in 39.73. Gerrit Nieberg (GER) and Ping Pong van de Lentamel (Emerald x Toulon) rounded off the top three with a time of 41.13 seconds. Two of the host nation’s rising stars followed in fourth and fifth, with Antoine Ermann and Floyd des Pres (Vigo Cece x Papillon Rouge) finishing fourth in 41.48, and Jeanne Sadran on Dexter de Kerglenn (Mylord Carthago x Diamant de Semilly) fifth in 42.96.
