The victory in Saturday's CSIO5* 1.50m Dublin Stakes – a class counting for the Longines Ranking Group C – at the 2024-edition of RDS Dublin Horse Show, went to McLain Ward (USA) and the 15-year-old Contagious (Contagio x For Keeps).
Crossing the finish line in 35.39 seconds in a jump-off between seven horse-and-rider combinations, Ward and Contagious took the win ahead of Michael Pender (IRL) and HHS Cornetta (Cornet Obolensky x Acorado) in second in 36.08.
Giulia Martinengo Marquet (ITA) and Scuderia 1918 Calle Deluxe (Cesano 2 x Con Air 7) placed third with a time of 36.81 seconds, while Martin Fuchs (SUI) and L&L Upgrade (Ultimo x Baloubet du Rouet) followed in fourth after clocking a time of 37.84. Francis Derwin (IRL) and Flexi K (Flex A Bill x Deeply Dippy K) completed the top five, with a fence down in the jump-off and a time of 36.68.
Earlier in the day, the host nation's Geoff Curran and DHF Alliance (Douglas x Lux Z) won the CSIO5* 1.45m Royal Dublin Society Stakes, a competition counting for the Longines Ranking Group D. With a time of 57.49, Curran and DHF Alliance bested a field of 31 starters, followed by Daniel Coyle (IRL) and Lena VDL (Carrera VDL x Mr Blue) in second in 57.93 and Daniel Deusser (GER) on Bingo Ste Hermelle (Number One d'Iso x Diamant de Semilly) in third in 58.27. Julien Gonin (FRA) and Valou du Lys (Calvaro F.C. x Galoubet A) finished fourth in 59.20, and Petronella Andersson (SWE) aboard Odina van Klapscheut (Zazu x Landor S) fifth in 59.22.
