The first edition of the Borculo JST Foal Auction turned out to be a success. Five foals were auctioned and they achieved a fantastic average of € 16,000. The most expensive foal was Dubai Z. This appealing colt by Diamant de Semilly out of the interestingly bred dam Dylandra (s. Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve) was hammered at an amount of 20,000 euros. He will stay in the Netherlands.
Tension could be felt on the Friday evening of CSI3* Jumping Schröder Tubbergen, where one wondered if this new auction concept would work and for what amounts the top foals would change ownership at this first Netherlands foal auction of the year. It soon became clear that the buyers appreciated the quality of the collection. The bidding process went smoothly and prices varied from € 13,000 to € 20,000. Next to Dubai Z two others foals will stay in the Netherlands. This applies also to the second most expensive foal, Noah W (s. Quabri de l’Isle). Marc Houtzager and Sterrehof Stud had at € 18,000 the last bid for the niece of their number one Sterrehof’s Calimero.
The other two foals have Italy and the US as their new destination. The latter goes for the colt Night Manager (s. Comme Il Faut), who was sold for €16.000,-. The BWG Stables from the Schröder brothers acted as intermediary here.
Dubai Z came in the hands of Alex Postma and his daughter Cynthia. Postma sr. reacted enthusiastically afterwards: “This is a very elegant colt by Diamant. You don’t see a lot of these. He is superbly bred and has a very good conformation. And how he will develop we don’t know. We just have to wait and see. For me this auction is a great initiative. It suits at an international show like this well.”
Dubai’s breeder Marcel Borger added: “I was confident about this new initiative, especially with Borculo Foal Auction being the organiser. I also had confidence in my foal. I’m really critical of my own breeding and in my opinion this was a very good foal right from the beginning. His dam is in foal again by Diamant. When it’s a filly she won’t leave my stable. I dare make that promise already!”
One foal from the collection was missing in Tubbergen. This Connor de la Vie (s. Cumano) will appear at the end of August during the main auction of the Elite Foal Auction Borculo at Paardensportcentrum Lichtenvoorde in Vragender. Last year the jumping foals realised a record average of € 15,259 there. The first edition of the Borculo JST Foal Auction already broke this record.
About Borculo JST
The initiative to introduce the Borculo JST Foal Auction in cooperation with the BWG Stables of the Schröder brothers is in line with the objectives of the Elite Foal Auction Borculo. Since 1979, ‘Borculo’ has been a household word within the equestrian world and this is partly due to the fact that the organization has always been progressive and innovative. Elite Foal Auction Borculo is therefore the first on many fronts. Not only the first foal auction of the Netherlands or the first based on the highest average auction price, but also traditionally the first auction of the regular foal auction season. The same goes for this year, when the main auction takes place on August 29th (jumper foals) and 30th (dressage foals) in Vragender.
