On Wednesday 28 August, an outstanding collection of 50 remarkably bred jumping foals comes under the hammer during the first day of Borculo Elite Foal Auction’s fortieth anniversary held at PSC Lichtenvoorde’s appealing accommodation in Vragender (Netherlands). For the first time in the history of the auction, potential buyers may also make their real-time bid online.

Key-suppliers Casall, Cornet Obolensky and Balou du Rouet

It goes without saying the spectacular 2019 foal collection fully lives up to Borculo Elite Foal Auction’s high standards when it comes to selecting foals. Coming from excellent breeders to begin with, all foals have been carefully selected on the basis of confirmation and movement, taking into consideration a future career in sport. Given their genetic backgrounds, these foals without a doubt have a bright future ahead of them. Proven sires and extraordinary dam lines with excellent sport as well as breeding results in their pedigrees pave the way for future success in sport. Much of the current WBFSH Sire Ranking’s top ten is represented. The collection includes offspring by the prime jumping sires Casall (4x), Cornet Obolensky (3x), Balou du Rouet (3x), Cicero Z van Paemel (3x), Verdi TN (2x), Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve (2x), Diamant de Semilly and Kashmir van Schuttershof, often in more than one generation.

Direct Toulon, Verdi and Numero Uno dam lines

Moreover, the direct dam lines behind such exquisite progenitors are also represented in the collection, with foals like a filly by Cicero Z van Paemel out of Toulon’s sister, a filly (s. Casall) out of Verdi TN’s full sister and a filly (s. Harley VDL) whose granddam is Numero Uno’s full sister.

Top-class foals by Comme Il Faut, Emerald, Conthargos and Tobago Z

Foal selectors Floris van Leuken and Pieter-Jan Berkers kept a close eye on the future, judging from their group of offspring by relatively young top progenitors, such as an exquisite colt by Comme Il Faut from the well-known Holstein line of Verdi III (Pius Schwizer/Tiffany Foster) and Gitania (Marcus Ehning). Emerald supplies no less than three striking offspring, including a colt with Heartbreaker mare Elena MM (1.45m) for a dam and RR Belerose (1.60m) for a granddam. We also find Emerald as the dam sire of a colt by Conthargos, another proven progenitorin the making. This foal’s dam is a sister to Cold Play who won the team silver medal for Sweden at the Tryon WC with Fredrik Jönsson and who also competes at the Rotterdam 2019 EC, as does Tobago Z (Daniel Deusser), of whom an exclusive colt out of Harley VDL’s sister is auctioned.

Candy, Usha van ’t Roosakker and Coriana van Klapscheut

Obihiro Obihiro (Carambole x Indoctro), Carambole and Anerina, full sister to dam Hello Sena-tor (Scott Brash)

Over the past decade, the dam lines behind the selected foals have brought many a champion or Grand Prix winner. The athletic filly by the young sire Impressive VDL was bred out of the dam of World and European Champion Zenith SFN (Jeroen Dubbeldam). Two fillies (sires Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve and Verdi TN) are from the well-known Dutch dam line of Vindicat W (Peter Charles/Jessica Springsteen), winner of the 2012 Olympic team gold medal. The appealing Casall x For Pleasure colt stems from the direct line of Usha van ’t Roosakker, dam of, among others, Cella (team gold and individual silver medal at the 2013 EC with Ben Maher).

Apart from this Belgian performance line others are represented just as well. Malito de Rêve’s colt has Candy in his second generation, one of the best BWP breeding and sport mares. She won the 2013 Calgary Grand Prix with Pieter De Vos, as did Cabrio van de Heffinck the year before. He sired the colt from the direct line behind As Cold As Ice Z, who was part of the Belgian team that won the 2015 FEI Nations Cup Final with Judy Ann Melchior. Another prize-winning mare is Coriana van Klapscheut (Eric Lamaze). The Casall Ask x Radco d’Houtveld colt auctioned is from her unsurpassed performance line.

A similar combination of winner’s genes on the sire side as well as the dam side can be found with the colt by Don VHP Z out of the strong line of Zinius (Harrie Smolders) and Havinia (Gianni Govoni), and also with the colt by Carambole out of a full sister to the dam of Hello Senator (s. Carambole, Scott Brash).
