Last weekend’s Jumping Amsterdam once again highlighted the quality of horses coming from the KWPN Select Sale. KSS reference Loeca N.D. made an impressive debut in the five-star Grand Prix with a double clear round, while Leonardo Da Vinci J.P.P. also confirmed his potential at the highest level. This week, the spotlight turns to the next generation, as the KWPN Select Sale ’26 takes place during the KWPN Stallion Show.
For over 20 years, the KWPN Select Sale has produced horses that go on to perform at the very top of the sport. The collection to be auctioned this week is now available for viewing and, once again, holds great promise. “These are horses we would love to buy ourselves,” says selection committee member Sjaak van der Lei. For example, the granddam of the Chacco-Blue son Cinsault de Fer van ’t Studutch, Sea Coast Ferly, proved herself at the highest level under Gudrun Patteet, while the dam line continues with the renowned Grand Prix mares Narcotique de Muze II and Qerly Chin.
Dam line Dourkhan Hero Z
Duncan Z (by Don’t Touch Tiji Hero) is a grandson of the successful Gin Tonic van het Gerendal, who made an impressive debut at 1.55m level last year at the age of nine under Armando Trapote. Gin Tonic’s half-brother is the remarkable Dourkhan Hero Z, who is competing at the highest level with Christian Ahlmann. This influential Van ’t Roosakker damline traces back to Zinka de Kalvarie Z, the full sister of the 1.60m jumper Zarkava Hero Z.
Olympic medalist Sapphire
Pleasure van de Moervelden also draws attention with his outstanding pedigree. He is a son of Pegase van ’t Ruytershof and is bred out of the mare Die’Hard 111 Z. She is a half-sister to the internationally 1.50/1.55m-classified Karamel de Mauretus Z (by Kannan), ridden by Jack Whitaker, and Bolero 111 (by Chatman), ridden by Darragh Kenny. The dam line traces back to Olympic medalist Sapphire, ridden by McLain Ward, as well as to Jur Vrieling’s World Equestrian Games and European Championship stallion Glasgow van ’t Merelsnest.
Renowned dam lines
Several stallions in the collection stand out through their proven dam lines and strong international performance genetics. Taliafico Anemone RT (by Newcati) comes from a dam who is a half-sister to the international 1.50/1.55m performers Quando Quando and Ligoretto, while this same line also produced Olympic jumper Valour and the 1.60m horse Baju NRW. Taycan-D (Carrera VDL x Kannan) represents the renowned Lady Reveil dam line, while Tarry Lou (by Darry Lou) is the half-brother to the ten-year-old international showjumper Legend, who is already competing successfully at 1.50m level.
Half-brother to a 5* Grand Prix horse
Nick Z (by Notting Hill JL) is closely related to top sport as a half-brother to the 5* Grand Prix horse Iwalinde. Tacloban (by Feromas van Beek Z) is another exceptional young stallion in the collection and traces back to the influential broodmare Zuhr, producer of the 1.60m KWPN-approved stallion Heathrow and the 1.60m Grand Prix winner Cjoxx Z.
Live and online bidding
All stallions will make another appearance during the second round viewing in ’s-Hertogenbosch. On Thursday, January 30, the showjumping stallions will be auctioned during the KWPN Stallion Show. Enthusiasts from around the world can place bids both online and live.
