What is the saying about whatever happens for the third time becomes a tradition? With this third instalment, the Holsteiner Verband foal auction held at the German Show Jumping and Dressage Derby in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg has now become a tradition as well. Six filly and three colt foals have been selected by Roland Metz, Sigrun Günther and Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs. And not just some random foals: Of course they are proper Holsteiners. And what kind of Holsteiners! Most foals boast ancestors with Derby or international own achievements. A glance at their pedigrees reveals sires or damsires like Clarimo, Catoki, Casall, Levisto or else Diamant de Semilly. But not only the foals’ parents are high-achieving breeding and sport horses – in many cases, other relatives have caused a splash as well.

Like for example lot no 1, right away: Chance to win by Clarimo-Catoki. The name says it all: a chance to win, for his second dam Zera won the German Jumping Derby with Pato Muente two years ago.

Lot no 2 is as interesting, a filly by Casall out of a full sister to none other than Ludger Beerbaum’s recently deceased Chiara by Contender. By the way, the same mare family, stem 1120, has also produced Chesall Zimequest, the first Holsteiner to jump to the top of the WBFSH ranking with his rider Simon Delestre.

As many as two foals are related to bona fide Derby specialists. One of them is lot no 6. Through her sire, United Way by Uriko, this filly combines the blood of Derby winner Carassina with the Holsteiner success stem 776. And the other is lot no 7, a typey filly by Million Dollar, a stallion currently attracting the attention of many international jumping riders, out of a dam by Diamant de Semilly. The same direct damline has also produced a Holsteiner who definitely knows his stuff around the German Derby - Collin by Contender, three time winner in Klein Flottbek.

This Holsteiner auction selection offers a range of bloodlines from international top established sire to younger ones, like for example Origi d’O, Catch and Del Arko d’Henvet. And in case you have not seen the young sires perform live yet, you should on no account miss out on Catch, Del Arko, Million Dollar, Origi d'O and United Way being presented by international top riders at about 1.40pm on Thursday afternoon! After the sires, all auction foals will be presented on the Derby ground.

Now it’s up to you: spot your favourite and raise your hand on Thursday 30 May 2019 at about 5.30 pm to secure one of these nine top sport horse aspirants.
