As 2023 has arrived with the last chances of qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the Saudi Arabian showjumpers have strengthened their string of horses – acquiring former World Cup champion Alamo (Ukato x Equador) as well as international Grand Prix performers Equine America Spacecake (Stakkatol x Kannan) and Kriskras DV (Cooper van de Heffinck x Kashmir van Schuttershof).
Alamo’s sale was announced by Spain’s Sergio Alvarez Moya yesterday: "Thanks Alamo, we'll all miss you here at home. Best of luck in your new home. Thanks to my partner @sergioramos @yeguadasr4oficial," wrote the Spanish rider on his official Instagram account. With Alvarez Moya in the saddle, Alamo won the CSI4* 1.60m Grand Prix in La Coruña last summer, as well as taking victories in the CSI5* 1.60m LGCT Grand Prix in Berlin and the CSIO3* 1.50m Grand Prix in Gorla Minore in 2021. Prior to Alvarez Moya taking over the reins in February 2021, Alamo had huge success with Steve Guerdat – who won the 2018 Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final in Geneva and the 2019 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final in Gothenburg with the now 15-year-old gelding.
With Great Britain's Ellen Whitaker in the saddle, the 11-year-old mare Equine America Spacecake was part of the British team at the 2022 Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup in Barcelona and placed fourth in the CSI5* 1.60m LGCT Grand Prix of London last summer.
After having competed at the highest level with Dutch riders Bart Bles, Jur Vrieling and Kevin Jochems, the 13-year-old gelding Kriskras DV has already done his first international appearances under the saddle of Saudi Arabia's Dalma Malhas.
