A statement from Athina Onassis’ lawyers, released on Friday 2nd of September, says that the Greek rider would "value privacy and respect" during the divorce proceedings from Alvaro de Miranda Neto. During the last couple of days, several media outlets have reported that Onassis has prohibited Alvaro de Miranda Neto from riding and seeing the horse Cornetto K after it arrived home from the Olympic Games in Rio.
The statement from Mrs. Onassis’ lawyers reads: “You can understand that this is an incredibly difficult and sad time for both parties involved. Mrs. Onassis would value privacy and respect during these deeply personal and painful moments. Mrs. Onassis confirms that all horses are owned by her equestrian sports entities. She has done her utmost to be considerate of Mr. de Miranda Neto, to whom she was married for 11 years, even providing him with the use of her horse Cornetto K during the 2016 Rio Games, a memorable opportunity for him to represent Brazil in these homeland Olympics. She has supported Mr. de Miranda Neto’s career all these years and is very surprised that he is now seeking a substantial alimony.”
