Cian O'Connor was crowned EquiVET Ireland International Rider Of The Year at Saturday's Showjumpers Club Awards at the Killashee House Hotel, Naas, Co. Kildare in Ireland. With two Nations Cup wins from Wellington and St. Gallen as well as being runner-up for Ireland in Dublin where he jumped a double clear round on Good Luck, and recording victories in Aachen, Dublin, Spruce Meadows, Birmingham and Doha O'Connor has won over 500.000 Euro this season and finished the year ranked no. 38 in the world.
Greg Broderick's Olympic mount MHS Going Global, recently sold to Athina Onassis, received the Ocean Feed Horse Of The Year-award. With Broderick in the saddle, the 10-year-old Irish bred gelding has had an outstanding 2016-season. MHS Going Global was on the winning Irish Nations Cup team in St. Gallen, where he also ended 4th in the Longines Grand Prix. In August, the pair was again double clear in a Nations Cup – this time on home soil in Dublin helping the Irish team to a second place. After the Olympics the two rounded off their outdoor season with a 6th place in the prestigious CN International Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows before ending second in the Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona.
