As of 13 October 2025, Ireland’s Darragh Kenny has been provisionally suspended by the FEI for a violation of the FEI Human Anti-Doping Rules. The substance Kenny has tested positive on is categorized as Class S6 (Stimulants) on the WADA Prohibited List, according to the FEI’s Human Anti-Doping Case Table which also refers to the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship in A Coruña, Spain – which took place in July this year – as the location for the testing.

Kenny is Ireland’s second highest ranked rider on the world ranking, where he currently sits 14th. The 37-year-old is a regular on the Irish team, and has represented Ireland at the World Equestrian Games in 2014, the European Championship in 2019, the Olympic Games in 2021, as well as at this year’s Europeans where the Irish team finished fourth and Kenny seventh individually riding Eddy Blue (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Chacco-Blue).

“I can confirm that after the European Championships earlier this year, I was notified by the FEI of a positive result for a medication prohibited under anti-doping regulations. The medication in question is part of a prescribed treatment I have been taking under medical supervision for ADHD,” Kenny stated. “As a result, the FEI has imposed a provisional suspension while the matter is being reviewed. I am cooperating fully with the FEI and the International Testing Agency (ITA) to clarify the circumstances surrounding this case.”

“I want to emphasize that I never intended to gain any competitive advantage,” Kenny's statement continued. “My sole aim was to responsibly address a medical condition under professional guidance. I am deeply grateful to my National Federation, my sponsors, owners, clients, and the broader equestrian community for their support throughout this process.”

“The matter is handled by the ITA, the International Testing Agency, as the FEI has delegated the implementation of its anti-doping programme for human athletes to the ITA. This is an ongoing case and we aren’t in a position to share additional information at this stage,” the FEI commented in a statement.

In an online statement, Horse Sport Ireland – the Irish national equestrian federation – commented: “The FEI has indicated that the provisional suspension relates to a human anti-doping matter involving a substance classified under Class S6 (Stimulants) on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. Substances in this category may be found in certain prescribed medications used in the treatment of medical conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anaphylaxis, and cold and flu symptoms. This matter is being managed by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the FEI. As the case remains ongoing, Horse Sport Ireland will not be making any further comment at this time.”
