Ireland’s Eoin McMahon, who for the past seven years has worked for Ludger Beerbaum in Riesenbeck, Germany, has moved to the Netherlands to join forces with his partner Wilma Hellström.
“For the last seven years, I’ve had the time of my life,” the 29-year-old reflects on his time in Riesenbeck, during which he represented Ireland at two European Championships – in 2021 in Riesenbeck with Chacon 2 and in 2023 in Milan with Mila. “Ludger and Arundell have been like second parents to me and have helped me not only to become a better horseman and competitor, but have also personally guided me through some difficult times. I’m forever grateful to them and we will continue to work closely together.”
“We’re very excited that we will start our business together in Valkenswaard, thanks to Wilma’s sponsor AJ Products and the Johansson-family,” McMahon tells about his future plans with Hellström, who also jumped at the 2023 European Championships with her wonderful Cicci BJN. “We will strive to build the business on finding talented horses to educate and sell, ride horses for owners, as well having the possibility for training students. Our main goal is to think long-term and build up a strong string of horses from a younger age to Grand Prix level.”
