The 17-year-old gelding Coronado (San Patrignano Cassini x Acord II, bred by Karl-Heinz Markussen) has retired from the sport, Evergate Stables shared on social media on Wednesday.
With Nayel Nassar (EGY) in the saddle, Coronado won the $1,000,0000 CSI5* 1.60m ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows, the CSI4* Land Rover Asheville Grand Prix in Tryon, the CSI5* Visit Greater Palm Springs Grand Prix at Desert International Horse Park as well as the CSIO5* 1.60m Anglesea Stakes at Dublin, to only mention some of their many successes together. Before Nassar took over the reins in 2021, Coronado was successful with Mexico’s Francisco Pasquel, while his most recent international appearances in 2025 and 2026 were with Ireland’s Philip McGuane.
“From unforgettable wins at some of the world’s most prestigious venues to countless moments of brilliance in the ring, Coronado has been an extraordinary partner and an undeniable force,” Evergate Stables shared on social media. “A sweetheart in the barn but a warrior in the ring, Coronado exemplified the modern sport horse with his talent, consistency and exceptional ring presence. Together with Nayel, he captured major wins across North America and Europe, highlighted by a banner season in 2023 in which he claimed 3 big Grand Prix titles, including the revered CSI5* ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows. Thank you for the memories, the victories, and the joy you brought to our team—and to everyone who had the privilege of working with you or watching you compete. Enjoy every moment of your well-earned retirement, Coronado. You mean the world to us!”
At World of Showjumping, we wish Coronado a very happy retirement!
