At the age of 23, the stallion Armitages Boy (Armitage x Feo) has passed away. Armitages Boy had a successful career, both under France’s Aymeric de Ponnat and Italy’s Lorenzo de Luca before he was retired in 2019 to focus on breeding duties.

With de Ponnat, Armitages Boy contributed to the French victory in the 2013 CSIO5* FEI Jumping Nations Cup Final in Barcelona, as well as being on the winning French team in the CSIO5* Nations Cup in La Baule in 2014. The pair had several good Grand Prix results together and competed at the 2013 FEI Jumping European Championship in Herning where they finished 11th individually.

Under de Luca, the stallion was on the winning Italian team in the CSIO5* Nations Cup in St. Gallen in 2017. That same year, the two were also 4th in the CSI5* LGCT Grand Prix classes in Madrid and Mexico and competed at the FEI Jumping European Championship in Gothenburg. In 2019, the duo finished 3rd in the FEI Jumping World Cup in Leipzig – one of their last international appearances together.

“Armitages Boy was definitely one of the best horses I have had during my career,” de Luca shared with World of Showjumping. “He was such an extraordinary jumper; a really small horse, but so exuberant – when you went to the ring, he felt so big. He gave me everything; he was such a cool horse to take to the biggest shows in the world and he made me confident that he would give me his best. His personality was fantastic; he was so playful, but also very sensitive. I really loved him, and he was an amazing horse. I thank Stephan Conter and Guillaume Canet for giving me the opportunity to ride a horse like him and to be a part of his career, when I look back at the photos and the videos of him it makes me smile – he was truly an incredible horse.”

At World of Showjumping, our thoughts go out to all those close to Armitages Boy.
