At the age of 27, the influential stallion Contendro I (Contender x Reichsgraf) passed away on 7 October 2024. Ranked 44th on the latest WBFSH Sire Ranking, the offspring of Contendro I include Christian Ahlmann's Aachen Grand Prix-winner Codex One, Andres Azcarraga's Olympic mount Contendros 2, Andre Thieme's $1 Million Grand Prix of Saugerties-winner Conthendrix, Alberto Zorzi's Grand Prix-winner Cinsey, as well as Harry Charles' Grand Prix-winner Borsato – to mention a few.
Paying tribute to the stallion, GFE wrote on their website: "Arriving in France twelve years ago, he leaves behind numerous quality descendants which have allowed him to appear without interruption among the best sires of young horses, in addition to his regularity on the lists of international winners. Behind this breath-taking track record there was an extremely endearing horse, with rare kindness and sensitivity which left an impression on the people who pampered him every day."
At World of Showjumping, our thoughts are with all those close to Contendro I.
