At the age of 25, Dermott Lennon's 2002 World Champion Liscalgot has peacefully passed away.
Together, Lennon and Liscalgot were very successfull. In addition to their gold medal from Jerez, the pair also took home the team gold at the European Championships in Arnhem in 2001.
After being retired, Liscalgot dedicated herself to breeding and had several foals. Some of them can today be seen competing around the world, such as Calgot Pleasure (by For Pleasure), Calgot Hero (by Udancer Hero) and Class of Touch Hero (by Radco d’Houtveld).
On his Facebook page, Lennon published the following statement yesterday:
"Liscalgot passed away peacefully at my home place on Saturday.
Shirley, as we called her, came to me when she was four years old.
Over the years we won young horse classes, National classes and International classes including several GPs and Nationscups.
In 2001 we won European Team Gold in Arnhem, Holland.
In 2002 we won the Individual Goldmedal at the Worldchampionship in Jerez, Spain.
Shirley had many talents and qualities, but the one that always stroke me as quite exceptional was her intelligence. It is what made her stand out from the rest.
To me and my family Shirley truly was the horse of a lifetime. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had such a special friend for over 20 years.
Thank you, Shirley, for everything."
