The 13-year-old stallion El Torreo de Muze, who has enjoyed great success with Brazil’s Bernardo Alves, has passed away, Stal de Muze announced today.
In their social media channels, Stal de Muze wrote:
“It is with a heavy heart that we write this message. This morning, El Torreo de Muze sadly passed away. The 13-year-old grey stallion was on his way to the GCT/GCL in Monaco to compete in the five-star competition, but a severe colic attack decided otherwise.
With his passing, we bid farewell to one of our biggest stars.
Rest in peace, El Torreo.
We will miss you.”
Out of the well-known mare Funky Music – who herself jumped at 1.60m level – and by the stallion Taran de La Pomme that is out of Ta Belle Van Sombeke, El Torreo de Muze comes from a family that has bred several high-level performers. After being produced by Walter Lelie, El Torreo de Muze went on to have a successful career with Alves in the saddle.
In 2018, the stallion won his first three-star Grand Prix with Alves and then went on to take victories in the CSIO4* World Cup in Rabat in 2019 as well as in the CSI4* Grand Prix in Bourg-en-Bresse in 2021. Recently, Alves and El Torreo de Muze won a CSI4* 1.50m in Geesteren, and finished third in the 1.55m Grand Prix at the same venue.
At World of Showjumping, our thoughts go out to all those close to El Torreo de Muze.
