Sadly, Ludger Beerbaum’s Goldfever 3 (Grosso Z x Galvano, bred by S. Hochmuth and owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze) has passed away at the age of 35.
Goldfever retired from the sport in 2009, after a long and successful career. With Beerbaum in the saddle, Goldfever won the Grand Prix of Aachen in 2002 and 2003, as well as the Grand Prix of Calgary in 2002. Together, the duo also won team gold at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and brought home four medals at European Championships. After his sports career, Goldfever focused on breeding at the Beerbaum Stallion Station in Riesenbeck, Germany, where he also spent his retirement years.
“Of course, we are all very sad today that Goldfever is no longer with us – but we also look back with great gratitude and a little pride on his successes and the time we shared,” Ludger Beerbaum shared in a press release from Beerbaum Stables, noting how his long-time employees Marie Johnson and Petra Schmid looked after Goldfever during his many years at Beerbaum’s yard – Petra every single day until the very end.
At World of Showjumping, our thoughts are with Team Beerbaum and all those close to Goldfever.
