Ideo du Thot, the legendary winner of the 2007 FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Las Vegas with Beat Mändli, has passed away at the age of 29.
After his successful sports career, Ideo du Thot enjoyed 14 years of retirement in good health at Elevage du Thot in Normandie.
Born in April 1996, the son of Arioso du Theillet and Battante du Thot, Ideo du Thot’s qualities were evident from a young age, his breeders Margrith and Jean-François Noël recall. In 2003, Thomas Fuchs purchased the French gelding, and shortly after, Rolf Theiler acquired him and gave the ride to Beat Mändli. After finishing third at the 2006 FEI Jumping World Cup Final™ in Kuala Lumpur, Mändli achieved a major success a year later in Las Vegas, celebrating victory with Ideo du Thot. "We had a wonderful time together. Ideo du Thot will always hold a special place in my heart," Mändli says.
After a long break due to an injury, Ideo du Thot began his second career in the summer of 2010 with the then 18-year-old Martin Fuchs. In 2011, Ideo du Thot retired from the sport and returned to his birthplace. "I would have loved to visit Ideo du Thot in France next April for his 30th birthday. He has given us an enormous amount of joy during the approximately 20 years I've owned him," his long-time owner Rolf Theiler said.
