Very sadly, Kevin Staut and Malin Baryard-Johnsson’s former top horse Rêveur de Hurtebise HDC has passed away at the age of 24, Haras des Coudrettes announced on Monday.

“We are very saddened to announce that Rêveur de Hurtebise passed away today at the age of 24,” the gelding’s owners wrote on social media. “Since his farewell at the CSIO La Baule in 2019, Rêveur had been enjoying a happy life at the Haras des Coudrettes under our windows, sharing his days in the paddock with Lacrimoso. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire HDC team, especially Julie, Sébastien, Tristan, and Jean Loïc, who pampered Rêveur over the past six years. Our grief is immense.”

Rêveur de Hurtebise HDC (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Capricieux Des Six Cences) was retired from the sport at the age of 17 after an illustrious career. With Staut, Rêveur won team gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) as well as team silver at the 2014 World Championships in Caen (FRA). They also won the prestigious Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final in Geneva in 2017 and contributed to French Nations Cup victories in La Baule in 2017 and in 2014 as well as in Rotterdam in 2014. With top-three finishes from around the globe in some of the world's most prestigious Grand Prix classes, the two were crowd favorites. Before Staut took over the reins back in the spring of 2012, Rêveur was successfully competed at five-star level by Sweden’s Malin Baryard-Johnsson.

At World of Showjumping, our thoughts are with Haras des Coudrettes and all those close to Rêveur de Hurtebise HDC.
