Julia Houtzager-Kayser’s former top horse Sterrehof’s Cayetano Z (Caretano Z x Cor de la Bruyere) has sadly passed away at the age of nearly 20, Stoeterij Sterrehof has announced on their website.
With Julia Houtzager-Kayser in the saddle, Sterrehof’s Cayetano Z had a long and successful career. For years, the pair was a mainstay on the Austrian team and represented their country at the European Championship in Gothenburg in 2017 as well as at the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in 2018. During their time together, the two were also in the top three in Grand Prix classes in Donaueschingen, Geesteren, Ommen and Parma. In 2020, the stallion was retired from the sport at the age of 16. After his sports career, Cayetano moved to Stoeterij Sterrehof to focus on breeding.
“Till the last day Cayetano was with us, we enjoyed his beautiful, energetic appearance. His death was therefore unexpected, but the knowledge that he did not suffer makes this loss more acceptable. It is now up to his offspring to continue his legacy. Cayetano, thank you for everything!” Stoeterij Sterrehof wrote on their website.
At World of Showjumping, our thoughts go out to all those close to Sterrehof’s Cayetano Z.
