Very sadly, Willem Greve’s former top horse Carambole (San Patrignano Cassini x Concerto II) has passed away at the age of 21.
“Rest in peace dearest Carambole,” Greve wrote on social media as he paid tribute to Carambole. “I owe everything to you, you have been my best partner ever. I cherish every moment, thanks a lot my friend for bringing people together and to teach me to be a better horseman and rider! You will always be “Simply the Best”.”
Greve and Carambole – that retired from the sport with a ceremony which took place during the 2023-edition of Jumping Amsterdam – formed a partnership when the stallion was a 4-year-old, and went on to have huge success together. In 2021, they were part of the Dutch team that won the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final in Barcelona and they also helped their country to Nations Cup victories in La Baule and Rotterdam in 2016. Together they won the CSI4* Grand Prix in Amsterdam in 2015, the CSI3* Grand Prix in Drachten in 2015, the CSI3* Grand Prix in Hardelot in 2015 and the CSI3* Grand Prix in Knokke in 2017. The two also represented the Netherlands at the European Championships in Herning in 2013.
Carambole was a popular breeding stallion with international Grand Prix winners Elien, Eurohill’s Fyolieta, Fecybelle and Hello Senator among his many offspring.
At World of Showjumping, our thoughts are with Willem and all those close to Carambole.
