“I will do the full chef d’equipe work, which includes the selection of the teams. Due to my competition experience I can also assist with the technical details if needed,” Francois Mathy Jr., the current President of the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC), commented to World of Showjumping. Belgium’s Francois Mathy Jr. will be taking over as chef d’equipe for the Spanish jumping team at the end of the year. The Spanish Equestrian Federation announced the news earlier this week.
“I will do the full chef d’equipe work, which includes the selection of the teams. Due to my competition experience I can also assist with the technical details if needed,” the 55-year-old Belgian, and current President of the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC), commented to World of Showjumping. “We will start the collaboration at the end of December, with the general aim at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.”
“I am not competing so much at the moment, so this kind of challenge fits well with my current situation,” Mathy Jr. continued. “I have been training others a lot, from the Chilean team to a few private students in America and Canada as well as talented young riders in Switzerland. I am not completely closed off to competing myself, but with these opportunities coming up, I am happy to see the sport from another aspect.”
