The Swedish chef d’equipe Henrik Ankarcrona has updated his national teams for the rest of the year. The championship-group, reserved for horse-and-rider-combinations that can be considered for championship teams, sees two strong combinations removed, with both Henrik von Eckermann and King Edward as well as Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Indiana no longer listed as part of Sweden’s top group.
“The riders have announced that these horses are not available for any more championships,” Ankarcrona explained in a press release from the Swedish Equestrian Federation. “It has been a fantastic era to have such horses, riders and most importantly, horse owners who have made these horses available to us. It has been an incredible journey and I feel great gratitude as a leader. We are continuously working to support the riders to produce future championship horses and we have many interesting horses that are already at a high level that will be exciting to follow.”
The now 15-year-old King Edward (Edward 28 x Feo, bred by Wim Impens) and the now 17-year-old H&M Indiana (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Animo's Hallo, bred by by W. Vanderlinden/Van Turtelboom-Ruys) were part of the Swedish team that won Olympic gold in Tokyo as well as the team that won gold at the 2022 World Championships in Herning. H&M Indiana was also part of the Swedish squad that claimed silver at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon.
