Marcus Ehning has announced the retirement of the 18-year-old stallion Cornado NRW (Cornet Obolensky x Acobat, breeder Antonius Schulze Averdiek).

With Ehning in the saddle, Cornado NRW has had a long and successful career. The pair won the CSI5* FEI World Cup in Bordeaux in 2014, the CSI5* Grand Prix Hermès in Paris that same year, as well as the Rolex Grand Prix in Den Bosch in 2016. Over the years, the two had numerous finishes on the podium in big Grand Prix classes at venues such as Basel, Bordeaux, Den Bosch, New York, Paris, Valkenswaard and Verona. They jumped at three World Cup Finals – twice finishing fourth, and at the World Equestrian Games in Caen in 2014.

A statement on Ehning’s social media channels reads:

“At the age of 18 and after countless success at the highest level, CORNADO NRW says farewell to the sport. With Marcus Ehning, the son of Cornet Obolensky won Grand Prix classes and successfully participated in three World Cup Finals. The couple represented Germany in many Nations Cups and was fourth at the World Equestrian Games in Caen with the German team, and tenth individually.

After ten years at the Hof Ehning, everyone involved has agreed that in the horse's interests CORNADO NRW is allowed to spend his deserved retirement in his usual environment and company in Borken.”

At World of Showjumping, we wish Cornado a happy retirement!
