Philipp Weishaupt’s 15-year-old gelding Coby 8 (Contagio x Escudo 19) retires from the sport, Ludger Beerbaum Stables announced on Tuesday. Weishaupt and Coby made their last international appearance together in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands, in the beginning of August. This January, the two won the CSI4* World Cup in Doha, Qatar, and last December, they topped the CSI5* World Cup in La Coruña, Spain.

“After sharing six years together, Coby is leaving Philipp Weishaupt's stable in Riesenbeck to enjoy his retirement on the pastures of his owner Alice Lawaetz in the USA,” team Beerbaum announced on social media. “The partnership between Philipp, Coby and his groom Lisa began in the summer of 2019. Together, they celebrated countless successes, which earned Coby a total of 2.27 million euros in prize money during his sporting career. In addition to his victories in World Cups and 5* Grand Prix, his consistent and outstanding performance made him an important pillar of Team Riesenbeck International and a guarantee for countless clear rounds.”

“I owe many accomplishments to Coby,” Philipp Weishaupt was quoted in the post from team Beerbaum. “He is not only an exceptional sport horse, but also a special character who has grown dear to all of us. I am very happy that Alice made it possible for Coby to spend his entire international career with me and that he can now enjoy his well-deserved retirement with her.”

At World of Showjumping, we wish Coby a very happy retirement!
