The 18-year-old gelding Urdy d’Astrée (Bouffon du Mourier x Quatchina d’Astrée) has retired from the sport, France’s Pierre-Marie Friant shared on social media on Wednesday.
Friant paid tribute to his loyal partner on social media, writing: “A major chapter closes with your retirement from sports. Eighteen years, including thirteen years together, inevitably leaves its mark… and even more so when they've been filled with so much emotion and joy.”
In 2024, the two placed second in the CSI4* Grand Prix in Bourg-en-Bresse and in 2019, they topped a CSI4* Grand Prix in Samorin, in addition to several international top placings throughout their years together.
“Beyond the results, you will always be remembered as a truly exceptional horse,” Friant continued. “A talented warrior on the track, bursting with energy, yet so kind and endearing in everyday life. I think everyone who had the chance to be around you will cherish a special memory. This adventure would never have been so wonderful without your owners, Jean and Christine, who supported us from beginning to end with trust and passion. I can never thank them enough for making all of this possible. Your success also wouldn't have been possible without everyone who took care of you: veterinarians, farriers, and grooms. Finally, a warm thought for your breeders, Elevage d’Astrée, Nadia and Fabien Bachellereau, who saw this champion born and without whom this story would never have existed. Ultimately, the best thing today is undoubtedly continuing to see you every day, enjoying the grass, the peace and quiet, and a well-deserved rest. Thank you for everything, my Champion.”
At World of Showjumping, we wish Urdy d’Astrée a very happy retirement!
