Martin Fuchs’ Clooney 51 (Cornet Obolensky x Ferragamo) has sustained a serious shoulder injury and is currently being treated at a clinic in Zürich, Switzerland.
A statement from Fuchs on his social media channels reads:
“This morning Clooney hurt himself after he slipped and fell on the field. He injured his right shoulder very seriously and everyone involved is doing their best for Clooney’s well being. He is in the Zurich Hospital and we are trying to make a retirement on the field possible.
At this time I have no further information and will keep everyone updated.
Pray for our Clooney.”
The 15-year-old gelding recently returned from Tokyo where he competed at the Olympic Games with Fuchs. The pair is reigning European Champions from Rotterdam in 2019 and have had a tremendous career together. In 2019, the two also finished second in the Longines FEI World Cup Final and won the CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix of Geneva, the CSI5* Longines FEI World Cups in Basel and Lyon as well as a CSI5* Grand Prix in Wellington. In 2018, the pair took the individual silver medal at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, and won the CSI5* World Cup in Lyon as well as the CSI5* Grand Prix of Zürich – to mention just a few of their many highlights over the last couple of years.
Our thoughts go out to Fuchs and his entire team during this difficult time.
