After five years as Chef d'Equipe for the Mexican jumping team, three-time Belgian Olympian Stanny Van Paesschen has decided to stop. As originally agreed with the Mexican Equestrian Federation, Van Paesschen’s last assignment was the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
"I had a great time with the Mexican team,” Van Paesschen tells World of Showjumping. “However, I still want to have some new challenges. On the flight back home from Tokyo, I told the riders that this was the end of the road for me. This was also our agreement, and I think it is better to stop when things are going well. After nearly five years, I believe it is time – also for them – for changes.”
“We have had some great wins, and some disappointments too – but that is sport. I have been very happy to work with them,” Van Paesschen says.
"For the next few months, I just want to slow down and have a bit more time for my son Constant," Van Paesschen says about his future plans. "I have not been able to give him enough time, and he is my priority. Afterwards, we will see what comes next. There is a lot to do at home too, so I can keep myself busy – it is not that I need to find something."
