During this weekend's CSI2* show in Balmoral, Ireland, Sycamore Stables' Suma’s Zorro (Douglas x Horos XX) was thanked off with a retirement ceremony.

With Sameh Eldahan in the saddle, the now 20-year-old mare jumped at two World Equestrian Games: In Caen in 2014 and in Tryon in 2018. The pair topped the Longines Grand Prix of La Coruña in 2017, as well as the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris in 2018, while their most memorable victory of all came in September 2018 when they won the ‘CP International’ presented by Rolex at Spruce Meadows.

"For me, Zorro is a horse of a lifetime and I have to mind her, she owes me nothing,” Sameh El Dahan told WoSJ in 2022.

Following the ceremony in Balmoral, Eldahan shared the following in social media: "The little lioness that could. Today a curtain closes on one of the most important chapters of my life let alone my career. A little chestnut mare that I met 13 years ago and together we have achieved unimaginable things but it wasn’t just the success, it was always something more with Zorro, she always had my back and when the chips were down she always rose to the occasion and more. Im forever grateful that I have met you. Today was your special day, a little tribute to how amazing you are, you are my living legend and I’m over the moon that you look the way you looked today at 20 years young, healthy sound and fresh. Happy retirement Zooz, Enjoy your field days at Sycamore. Thank you Sumas Zorro for all the joy you gave us and will continue to give us just by being you."

"Today at @balmoralshow we got to say thank you to Sumas Zorro for everything & give her the send off that she deserves," Joanne Sloan-Allen's Sycamore Stables announced on social media. "A hard day but glad shes retired to the paddocks happy and healthy. Now for the future of little zorros. Always a special horse to us all at Sycamore Stables that we adore."

At World of Showjumping, we wish Suma's Zorro a very happy retirement!
