Olympic Games Rio 2016

Qualified for the Olympics! Photo (c) Jenny Abrahamsson.
Switzerland has qualified for the Olympics in Rio after an incredible team effort in Aachen. Photo (c) Jenny Abrahamsson.

Three countries qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio following their classification in the team final of the European Championships in Aachen. The three best countries that were not already qualified for the Games were Switzerland, Great Britain and Spain.

Four European countries - Netherlands, France, Germany and Sweden earned Olympic qualification already last year after the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, and Ukraine won the Olympic qualifier in Samorin two weeks ago.

Ireland was the first team not to qualify and their riders now how to try and qualify as individuals. The same goes for the Belgian riders who did not even qualify for Friday’s final in Aachen and will thus not have a team in Rio either. This is of course a disappointment for the Belgian team who won this year’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Europe Division 1 League.
