The FEI Tribunal has announced that it has issued its final decision on the case opened by the FEI against Italian jumping athlete Giacomo Basso (FEI ID 10035513/ITA) following a positive for the two prohibited substances stanozolol and ketoprofen.

Stanozol is a banned substance and ketoprofen is a controlled medication under the FEI’s Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations (EADCMRs).

Samples taken from the horse Cenerado at the CSI3* at Gorla Minore (ITA) on 12 March 2017 returned positive for the two substances and the athlete was provisionally suspended on 5 April 2017. The horse was also provisionally suspended for two months.

In its final decision, the FEI Tribunal imposed a two-year suspension on the athlete, starting from the date of sample collection and running through to 11 March 2019. The FEI Tribunal also imposed a fine of CHF 4,000 and ordered the athlete to contribute CHF 2,500 towards the costs of the judicial procedure, plus the cost of the B-Sample analysis.

The final decision is available here. The athlete has 21 days from the date of notification (23 March 2018) to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
