Update after the EHV-1 outbreak in Valencia: “The vets have been able to slow down the most serious cases”

EHV-1 (neurological form)

Daily reports from Carl-Walter Fox – the riders’ representative in Valencia – now suggest that the situation seems to be improving after the EHV-1 (neurological form) outbreak. “First of all, I would really like to thank the equestrian community for standing up for us during the last week and helping us in all possible ways,” Fox says.

According to Fox, the vets have managed to slow down the number of serious cases. The vets are learning more and more about the different ways the virus acts and with which patterns. However, Fox informs that this does not mean that the horses are out of danger and the veterinarians are still working day and night to keep an eye on the horses.

Furthermore, French sanitary specialists have been on the show ground to help all the teams to keep their group of boxes as clean as possible to help prevent more spread of the virus.

Finally, new boxes arrived in Valencia today, Saturday, and all the horses will now be divided into smaller groups. It will be a safe distance between each group and when one group is cleared from the quarantine they can travel back home.

To make sure the horses can travel home in the safest way possible - when they are ready for it - special overnight-stables are being organised, Fox informs.
