Cantinero has been reunited with his former rider Henrik von Eckermann.
The gelding was competed successfully under Von Eckermann while he was working at Ludger Beerbaum’s stables, and won the prestigious Grand Prix of Rome in 2015 as well as representing Sweden at the European Championships in Aachen the same year.
However, the 14-year-old gelding – owned by the Qatar Armed Forces – has been absent from the international rings since February due to an injury and when Von Eckermann started his own business in September the couple was forced to split up. Now, it looks set for a comeback for the two – as Cantinero has joined Von Eckermann’s stable.
“Cantinero suddenly went lame in February, and has had a long break since. As a wish from the owners he is now stabled at my new base. I am very happy to have him here but we will take it day by day with him. At the moment he looks good and we are of course hoping for a full recovery,” Von Eckermann tells to World of Showjumping.
