The five-star competitions got underway at Madrid Horse Week on Friday, and it was the host country's Eduardo Alvarez Aznar on Fidux (Malito de Reve x Voltaire) that won the opening CSI5* Mitsubishi Trophy.

The 1.45m class against the clock had 48 starters in it, and Alvarez Aznar clocked the winning time of 57,12 seconds. Second place went to Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) on VDL Groep Quatro (Quaprice Boimargot Quincy x Caletto) with the time of 58,25 seconds. The last starter of the class, Gonzalo Anon Suarez (ESP) on AD Amigo B (Tadmus x Heartbreaker), kept the home crowd at the edge of their seats and ended third with the time of 58,59 seconds.
