Their partnership has only just begun, but on Sunday Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP) and the 2019 World Cup Champion Alamo (Ukato x Equador) already proved that they are a good match as they won the CSIO3* 1.50m Grand Prix presented by MAIL BOXES ETC. in Gorla Minore, Italy. Alvarez Moya purchased the gelding back in February, together with Real Madrid’s captain Sergio Ramos – who is now supporting the Spanish rider with some top horses.
“I am very, very happy,” Alvarez Moya commented to World of Showjumping after his win. “It was actually not a bad thing that we had no shows for almost two months; I could get to know him a little bit and take my time with him. Of course, he is a super horse and he already proved that before – but I am very happy with the performances last week as well as today. I made some small adjustments on the bridle this week, and so he was even better. I am very lucky and privileged to have a horse like this, and an owner like this. Our first big show will be the Longines Global Champions Tour in Madrid, and I hope we can keep on going this way.”
Sanne Thijssen (NED) and Con Quidam (Quinar x Cardino) followed 0.27 seconds behind Alvarez Moya in the jump-off, to take the runner-up position. Billy Twomey (IRL) took the third place with Chat Botte E.D. (Casall x Darco), 0.83 seconds behind the winning time. Fourth place went to living legend John Whitaker (GBR) and Unick du Francport (Zandor x Helios de la Cour II), while Pedro Veniss (BRA) was fifth with Böckmann's Lord Pezi Junior (Böckmann's Lord Pezi x Quattro 7).
