Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP) and the 14-year-old gelding Alamo (Ukato x Equador) took a home win in Sunday's CSI4* 1.60m Casas Novas Grand Prix in La Coruna, Spain.
Seven pairs delivered double clears in the Grand Prix, and fastest in round two was Alvarez Moya who stopped the clock on 43.79 seconds. "Alamo jumped really good the whole weekend. I did a small class the first day and he jumped clear, then I did the big class on Saturday with a few time faults – I did not really try for the time as the plan was to jump him in the Grand Prix, and yesterday he was really good. I was lucky that the jump-off came up good for me, all the turns were really smooth, and I had a good rhythm from the start to the end. Alamo feels very good at the moment, and my plan now is to take it a bit easy with him for a couple of weeks and then jump him once or twice at home before heading to the World Championship in Herning. If I could help my team there to get the Olympic qualification it would be fantastic," Alvarez Moya said to World of Showjumping after his win.
Second place in the Grand Prix went to Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) and Elwikke (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Quick Star), with a time of 45.05 in the jump-off, followed by Fernando Martinez Sommer (MEX) and Charlie Harper (Comme Il Faut 5 x Salinator) in third after the two stopped the clock at 45.87 seconds. Duarte Seabra (POR) finished fourth with Dourados (Diarado x Cornet Obolensky), and Gonzalo Busca Roca (ESP) fifth with Diego P.D. (Verdi TN x Gran Corrado).
