Benjamin Wulschner (GER) and the 15-year-old Bangkok Girl PP (Balou du Rouet x Quo Vadis) won Friday's CSI4* 1.50m presented by Deutschen Kreditbank AG in Hamburg – a class that also counted as the second qualification for the 91st German Jumping Derby presented by Idee Kaffe.
With a time of 91.14 seconds, Wulschner cleared the course consisting of 13 fences and 17 efforts with several natural elements. This was the first chance for the horses to test the derby bank and as always that caused some problems. “Bangkok is so brave and my feeling was great,” Wulschner said after his round.
The runner-up position went to Harry Charles (GBR) with Controe (Wender R x Iroko) – a horse he borrowed from his sister – after finishing the demanding course in 92.61 seconds. “I haven't had so much fun riding for a long time. He did a great job and then in this beautiful ring and with the fantastic crowd, it really was one of the best rounds in a very long time,” smiled the 22-year-old Brit about his Derby debut.
Third place went to Shane Breen (IRL) with Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fara), fourth place to Mark McAuley (IRL) with Miebello (Flyinge Quite Easy x Cardento) followed by Frederic Tillmann (GER) with Comanche v. (Cellestial x Loredo) in fifth.
