Edited press release from Spruce Meadows
The CSI5* ATCO Cup 1.50m marked the start of competition on the International Ring for the second day of the Spruce Meadows 'National', presented by Rolex. Thirty-three horse-and-rider combinations took on the challenging track set by FEI course designer Anthony D'Ambrosio (USA). Three duos passed all the tests in round one and returned for the jump-off against the clock: Kyle King (USA) on Etalon (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Concorde), Mario Deslauriers (CAN) on Uris de la Roque (Capital x Quick Star) and Conor Swail (IRL) on Nadal Hero & DB (Kannan x Polydor).
King was first into the jump-off and did his best to lay down a quick time but carried eight faults to his final score. Deslauriers laid down a quick clear ride with a time of 41.65s that could not be beat by Swail who followed closely with a time of 41.77s.
The Canadian veteran, who was Canada’s lone show jumper at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, continued his successful start to the 2022 Spruce Meadows season and looks to carry his winning ways into weekend competition.
