Edited press release from Spruce Meadows
On the final day of the Spruce Meadows 'North American', presented by Rolex, thirty-five riders had qualified for the Lafarge CSI2* Grand Prix. They were presented with a 510m track with 13 obstacles and 16 jumping efforts that had to be completed in 82 seconds or less. The course was set by Santiago Varela (ESP), who has been designing the International Ring courses all week in a way that has allowed the horses to grow and progress.
Eight horse-and-rider combinations cleared the first-round track, and Canada had five chances to take top spot. Tiffany Foster (CAN) held onto the lead right up until the final horse entered the ring, but Conor Swail (IRL) – who has had a phenomenal summer at Spruce Meadows – wanted to add one more victory to an impressive list of 24 top three placings. Aboard the big bay gelding Gamble (Vingino x Indoctro), Swail jumped to victory with a clear round in the jump-off and a time of 41.58s.
Foster had to settle for second place with Com Est Ta (Comme Il Faut 5 x Caretino 2) with a time of 43.90, followed by Vanessa Mannix (CAN) and Lehar (Verdi x D'ukase) in third after the pair clocked a time of 45.65.
