Press release from Spruce Meadows Media Services
The CSI5* 'Continental' presented by Rolex marks the second week of the 2019 Spruce Meadows Summer Series. Riders from 24 different countries prepared for a week of top international sport on the Meadows on the Green, each hoping to make it to the winner's circle.
The 1.50m Husky Energy Classic had 62 horse-and-rider combinations take on the track laid out by FEI Course Designer, Olympic medalist and former Spruce Meadows Champion, Michel Vaillancourt (CAN). The horses took well to the new layout at Meadows on the Green. Eighteen jumped clear to make it into the jump-off.
With 18 horses in the jump-off riders not only had to complete their jump -ff ride with no faults, but had to be very fast. Daniel Coyle (IRL) and Cita (Casall x Pik Ramiro) stepped into the ring first to do just that. The pair sailed over the finish line setting the pace with a time of 36.76s that could not be beat.
"It can work to your advantage you're not chasing anybody else, you kind of do your own thing," Daniel Coyle commented afterwards about going first in the jump-off.
Conor Swail (IRL) followed Coyle in 37.28 seconds riding GK Coco Chanel (Clarimo x Lerano), while third place went to Nikolaj Hein Ruus (DEN) on Crusador Z (Chacco-Blue x Lacorado) with a time of 38.15.
