In Saturday's feature class – a 1.45-1.50m with a jump-off – at Hubside Jumping in Grimaud, France, home rider Edward Levy went to the top with Rebeca LS (Rebozo La Silla x Cassini I). Levy was the fastest of the twenty-one qualified for the second round against the clock, leaving Daniel Deusser (GER) behind him in second with Jasmien vd Bisschop (Larino x Chin Chin) and Peder Fredricson (SWE) in third with H&M Christian K (Namelus R x Calvados).
"When I go into a jump-off with Rebeca, I'm generally pretty well armed!" Levy laughed. "She's a very fast mare and always gives her everything. It was a delicate jump-off and there were twenty-one of us taking it on, so it wasn't that easy."
"There was already plenty to do in the first round but the exceptional horses and riders in this type of 1.50m class totally justifies the number in the jump-off today. I just hope that the number of jump-offs tonight will not encourage Uliano Vezzani to put us too much under the heat tomorrow! No kidding, tomorrow it will be a 5* Grand Prix, so it will be big and technical, but Uno de Cerisy was fourth in yesterday's feature class. I'm pretty confident."
A little earlier in the afternoon, world number one Steve Guerdat (SUI) won in the 1.45m class with Ulysses des Forêts (Col Canto x Le Tot de Semilly), 0.55 seconds faster than Jessica Springsteen (USA) on RMF Tinkerbell (Incolor x Argentinus). Home rider Mathieu Billot was the best of the French, finishing in third place with Ilena S (Verdi x Calido I).
