Belgium’s Jérôme Guery and the 13-year-old gelding Great Britain V (Nabab de Reve x Carolus H) won Sunday’s CSI3* 1.50m CHG (Construcciones Hispano Germanas S.A) Grand Prix at Spring MET I 2025, topping a starting field of 50 horse-and-rider combinations.

Sunday’s CHG Grand Prix concluded the third and last week of competition of the first part of Spring MET 2025 at Centro Ecuestre Oliva Nova in Spain. With a time of 38.09 seconds in a jump-off between nine pairs, Guery and Great Britain V topped an all Belgian podium: Elke Appeltans (BEL) and Basic Instinct Z (Balou du Rouet x Quintus) followed their compatriot Guery in second in 41.19, while Bart Jay Junior Vandecasteele (BEL) on Vamos de La Pomme d’Or Z (Vigo d’Arsouilles x Ogano Sitte) took the third place with a time of 46.89 seconds.

Only the top three managed to deliver a double clear result, while others were faster but paid for their speed with rails down. Titouan Schmacher (FRA) and Illusion (Balou du Rouet x Glennridge) finished fourth with the last fence down in 37.12 seconds, while Jana Wargers (GER) and Dorette Old (Dollar du Murier x Fighting Alpha) picked up four faults at the penultimate double in the jump-off to finish fifth in 37.61.

“Great Britain has been with me a for a long time,” Guery – a familiar face at the venue in Oliva Nova along with his family – told about his winning partner Great Britain V. “He is a very generous horse. He had a big colic operation and the chances for him ever getting back to the sport were very low. He is a real survivor and a fighter, and it is so nice to have him back at this level now. He always tries his best, and I think this year he will be back to five-star level. It is good to start the season with him here in Oliva.”

“The course was quite technical,” Guery continued. “The last line was really challenging, with the triple, plank and a big oxer. I knew it would be a fast jump-off, because we had some very good and quick horses and riders qualified. I was in the middle of the jump-off, and saw one very fast round from Titouan Schumacher, who had the last fence down, so I saw a little bit what to do. I had a plan and I followed it; I knew I was beatable but luckily those who tried had faults. It was a nice victory!”

Spring MET 2025 continues on February 11th with the second part of the tour, with MET II running until March 3rd, followed by MET III in March and MET IV in April.
