Belgium’s Jéròme Guery has been in great form at the Spring MET II 2025 in Oliva Nova, Spain, taking three big wins during the second week of competition prior to Sunday. And on Sunday, Guery and Great Britain V (Nabab de Reve x Carolus H) took yet another win, this time topping the CSI3* 1.50m CHG – Construcciones Hispano Germanas S.A.
Only four from the 44 horse-and-rider combinations at start cleared the first-round track and joined the jump-off, where Guery clocked the winning time of 48.50. Taisie de Gruchy (GBR) and La Presley CJS (Cicero Z x Lancelot) took the runner-up spot as the second double clear in 53.23, while a fence down in 48.86 left Marc Houtzager (NED) and Sterrehof’s Dante (Canturano x Phin-Phin) to third.
With a fence down in 50.94 in the jump-off, Virginie Thonon (BEL) and Scala du Piedroux Z (Silver 2 de Virton x Crown Z) finished fourth, while Nick Nanning (NED) aboard Horse Gym’s Classina (Casalito x Clarimo) took the fifth spot with a single time penalty from round one.
"I am really happy with my group of horses, they are in very good shape at the moment," Guery told World of Showjumping. "My son Mathieu is in good form also and it has been nice to share the podium with him in some of the classes here. I am happy to come to Oliva every year with my horses to start the season. This week was amazing for me: It has never happened to me before that I win all the big classes in one week - from Thursday to Sunday, I won every big class. I am really happy and this is a good start to the season. I hope it continues like this, but for now I am just enjoying the good things."
